POWDER KEG CUP 2022

Eaglecrest’s uphill-downhill race series, the Powder Keg Cup, has returned in full force and in-person! All proceeds this year will benefit the Coastal Alaska Avalanche Center.

PKC was originally intended to be a single-race format this year. But, since enthusiasm for the first race was so high, we decided to plan two more!

Just like 2019, overall champions will be crowned based on their best two finishes! We are spicing things up by adding more divisions based on age. In addition to the usual divisions of men’s & women’s ski and split board, we’ll have one for participants ages 45-59, with another division for those 60+! There will also be an award for the best costume.

Dates: March 19, 26, April 2
Check-in: 4:00 – 4:30 PM
Start time: 4:30 PM near the base of Hooter chairlift
Entry fee: $15
Route:  Get to the top of Ptarmigan (and back) intact! Routing will be announced during event check-in. Remember that Steep Chutes is uncontrolled avalanche terrain outside operating hours.
Required Gear: Beacon, Probe, Shovel

The race hours align with Eaglecrest’s Uphill Policy. There is no uphill access within the ski area boundary on operating days during operating hours. Please read the full policy.

Participation is at your own risk! Ski Patrol services will not be available, and Eaglecrest is considered backcountry terrain when we are not operating. Pay attention to the Mountain Report at skieaglecrest.com/conditions for potential closures due to mountain operations and avalanche mitigation work.

The Powder Keg Cup takes place outside Eaglecrest operating hours. Eaglecrest is considered backcountry terrain when not operating. Ski Patrol services are not available. Participation is at your own risk. Know Before You Go! Pay attention to the Mountain Report for potential closures.

Routes will not go below Steep Chutes, which is uncontrolled avalanche terrain outside operating hours.

The 2021 Powder Keg Cup was dominated by a single player: SARS-CoV-2.

Originally planned as a three race series, held virtually via the Strava App, the 2021 Powder Keg Cup didn’t really go as planned! The virtual format was messy and the race results were inaccurate, incomplete, or missing. Overall 2021 champions were not crowned.

The 2020 Powder Keg Cup was dominated by a single player: SARS-CoV-2.

Originally planned as a three race series, the 2020 Powder Keg Cup only managed one race before the ski area closed due to the pandemic. Race #2 and Race #3 were cancelled. Overall 2020 champions were not crowned.
