Eaglecrest Ski Area became one of Juneau’s early destination charging sites in 2016, with the installation of its first electric vehicle (EV) chargers near the caretaker’s cabin. As EV use grew, especially during the winter season, demand quickly outpaced the original chargers.

In 2022, the Juneau Electric Vehicle Association (JEVA) and the Alaska Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA) partnered to fundraise for an expanded charging site. With the longer winter drive up the mountain, the goal was to ensure EV drivers could charge reliably and get home safely. Community donations went directly toward Level 2 chargers and electrical materials.

With major support from CBJ and Eaglecrest, the project was completed during summer and fall 2022. An update on March 9, 2023, confirmed that fundraising nearly covered all donated materials.

Today, Eaglecrest offers free, public Level 2 EV charging near Raven’s Rest, made possible through strong community partnerships and a shared commitment to sustainability and access.
