This week we’ve had 17” of snowfall, sunny afternoons, and absolutely fantastic conditions. We’re on a new winter schedule, Wednesday to Sunday. Last week was our first Powder Wednesday and had 20” of wind-blown pow. This Wednesday we opened with another 14”!

Looks like a few more inches coming our way this weekend, which is also the start of the four-week Women’s Reach the Peak workshop series. If you’re late to sign up, there will be another session in February. And the men’s and women’s Ptarmigan & Beyond series is in March.

This weekend, we’re partnering with the Coastal Alaska Avalanche Center for a fun new event we’re calling: the Beacon Scramble. Register online for only $10, and we’ll email you a treasure map to find five avalanche beacons we buried on the mountain. When you locate a beacon, look for a nearby tree marked with a letter of the alphabet. Find all the letters, figure out the password, and you can win some fun prizes from our friends at Nugget Alaskan Outfitter and Foggy Mountain Shop.

And remember, if you’re going into the backcountry, know before you go and visit coastalakavalanche.org for recent observations.

Thanks to everyone’s cooperative efforts, this season has been safe, efficient, and successful. We are going to keep things pretty much the same for the rest of the season. We are adding bench seating and propane heaters inside the new tent stations to help you knock off the chill and find a place to sit and rest. Lodges are closed, except for restroom and season locker access in Fish Creek. Porcupine Lodge is open for Rental Shop appointments and the Ski Shop.
