Hello Eaglecrest users. Boy, the old saying “time flies when you’re having fun” couldn’t be truer for me right now. It is shocking to think that we have already arrived at Spring Break Week and only have 19 operating days remaining in the season.

Thankfully, Mother Nature has treated us much better than many ski areas around North America delivering another great ski season. We have seen a roller coaster of weather again with some massive rainstorms, that thankfully were bookended by equally massive snowstorms. It looks like we are setting up for a week of sunny skies and corn skiing for spring break week.

We were fortunate this season to have been able to bolster our staffing roster with wonderful people from Peru, Costa Rica, and Brazil. Thanks to this program, we have had sufficient staffing to operate every department. It’s been excellent to see Black Bear, the repair shop, Pittman’s Pub, and other departments thriving this season. While we have had some mid-level and senior management transitions, the success of this season was also made possible thanks to some key staff members: Steve, Erin, Justin, and Kristen just to name a few. I am honored to have such a great staff team.

As we get closer to closing day, we will start reducing operations due to staffing shortages. As Juneau’s summer tourism operations continue to grow and expand, we will be saying goodbye to many of our dedicated staff in the coming weeks before they move to their summer positions. Going into next week for Spring Break, Black Bear will be closed Monday through Friday. We hope to be able to staff with enough people to keep it running on the weekends up to closing. At this point, we are taking things one day at a time and will keep you posted on our operations plans as they continue to evolve.

If anyone has friends or is personally looking for a couple weeks of work for the spring season have them visit the CBJ recruiting page at Employment Opportunities – City and Borough of Juneau Full/part-time/Volunteer hours accepted. Please reach out to [email protected] for any further information.

Looking ahead to summer we are excited to be ready to solicit for our Gondola Construction Contractor and to see the beginning of construction commence. Also, keep your eyes out for registration information on our youth summer camps.

Hope to see you all on the mountain enjoying that springtime sunshine!
