Fish Creek Road is a State Highway. Alaska DOT plows the road each morning prior to opening and will return as needed throughout the day. Eaglecrest is the highest road accessible point in Juneau. Be prepared for winter driving and use 4WD, AWD, studded tires, or chains whenever necessary.
Good Morning Douglas Island! Yesterday felt like a dream, and more of the same is in store today. Blue skies, light snow, what more could you ask for?
It is currently 20 degrees up top and 22 at the base, with a light breeze. East and West Bowls are now open. There are still PLENTY of fresh stashes in both - don’t let the “crowds” from yesterday deter you. The benches/glades areas are also hiding some great turns, and so it Drifter, Inside Passge, and Sluice Box trees on the East side.
New groomed runs are in! Say hello to Sneaky, Marmot and Cheechako today! The groomers are the best they’ve been all season - packed powder for soft and edgeable turns. Keep an eye out for marked and unmarked hazards everywhere. Its still extremely low tide and hazards are lurking beneath the new snow.
In case you’re not on our newsletter list or on our socials (hint hint), this weekend is Beacon Scramble! Check it out on the calendar, events page or news post for more info. The time to practice with your backcountry equipment is always, and this is an easy way to do it. Plus, it’s for a good cause (CAAC), so throw $10 our way, and have a little treasure hunt this weekend! Who knows, you could win a CAAC hat, EC passes, or more!
Your groomed trails today are: Muskeg, Dolly Varden, Stickleback, Sneaky, Sourdough, Williwaw, Otter Slide, Throat, Easy Bowl, Motherlode, Upper Sluice Box, Black Bear Access, Raven & Log Jam Runouts, Cheechako, and Marmot. Ptarmigan and Porcupine chairlifts will be open from 9AM - 4PM.
NORDIC UPDATE: March 13th – 6:30AM update
Good Morning Nordic Fans! The Upper Loop has been groomed this morning thanks to our very hardworking groomer. Conditions should be excellent with packed powder snow and a classic and skate track set. Unmarked hazards exist, so use caution out there.
Stadium loop, cabin loop, showboat loop, Blackbear hill and loop and a shortened Hilda out and back are all in.
You can access the upper loop above Hilda Dam via Sneaky and hiking up the lookers left side of sneaky by the fence.
