Eaglecrest Ski Area and the Eaglecrest Foundation are raising funds for snowmaking projects to improve efficiency and capacity.

Over the past three years, the ski area has expanded the snow gun fleet and added a new pipeline and pump house to allow snowmaking in higher elevations. These efforts have helped Eaglecrest fortify routes through the lower mountain, which receives less preseason natural snowfall than the deeper upper mountain snowpack.

There is still more work ahead, and you can help! Eaglecrest is replacing the primary pipelines that supply water from Cropley Lake, which are more than 40 years old and badly corroded. Eaglecrest also hopes to purchase six new air/water guns and add another pump house near the top of the Log Jam trail. The new pipeline and pump house will allow Eaglecrest to pressurize the entire snowmaking system, a vast improvement over the current gravity-fed pressure system.

Eaglecrest asks the community to support snowmaking projects by donating to the Eaglecrest Foundation online at eaglecrestfoundation.org or by mail: Eaglecrest Foundation, PO Box 20169, Juneau, Alaska 99802.

If you would like to make a larger contribution, please consider sponsoring a chairlift tower. These sponsor displays are available for an initial three-year term for $2,500. Interested individuals, families, and businesses should call (907) 790-2000 x227 or email [email protected].
