JUNEAU SKI CLUB FREERIDE PROGRAM
The JSC Freeride program is designed for all-mountain skiers and snowboarders ages 12 and up (as of December 31st, 2018) who want to improve their skills, train, and compete in a local and/or national freeride events.
With a local, year-end comp tentatively scheduled for ~March 16 at Eaglecrest as the backdrop, JSC coaches will guide athletes and emphasize skills necessary to navigate and successfully perform at the competition.
The JSC FreeRide program is a new offering at Eaglecrest. Regardless of the snowpack or lift service, the Freeride program will find snow to train and play on. While you’re at it, team members will learn more about their home mountain and develop their backcountry skills and knowledge.
$200 Per Session Ages 12 – 18
$300 For Both Sessions
Session 1 – January 5 – February 9
Session 2 – January 16 – March 23
Saturdays 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM
Pre-season camp December 29
JSC membership fee & Eaglecrest lift tickets not included
Accepting athletes that are able to ski or snowboard the entire mountain with competence.
Improve skiing/riding technique in all snow conditions
Adapt to quickly changing terrain and conditions
Understand how weather, terrain, and snow conditions affect skiing/riding and safety
Assess terrain and conditions safety, adapt and manage terrain selection to maximize safety
Improve air awareness and airborne tricks
Read and navigate terrain, including assessment of specific lines based on land-features and safety consideration
Skiing/riding gullies, steeps, drops, varying snow conditions and gnar
Skiing to competitive freeride criteria including line choice, control, fluidity, technique and style
Developing mental strength and fortitude to compete
Evaluating weather and snow conditions
