JUNEAU NORDIC SKI CLUB
Juneau Nordic Ski Club (JNSC) is a non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers. The mission of the JNSC is to promote cross-country skiing through youth development, trail development, trail maintenance, and advocacy in the Juneau area. The club’s efforts in recent years have led to nordic trails being regularly groomed over 100 days per season.
JNSC maintain trails in the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area and Montana Creek Road on a daily basis whenever ice and snow conditions allow. All grooming is completed with JNSC-owned snow machines and other equipment. Eaglecrest Ski Area will often allow JNSC to groom the Upper & Lower Nordic Trails in the early and late season to extend the Nordic season for Juneau skiers. All operations are funded by donations from individuals, businesses and other organizations.
JUNEAU 4H LUGE CLUB
The Juneau 4H Luge Club promotes a fun way of sliding on snow for youth and adults. Come join us to experience the thrill of descending snow packed runs on a steerable sled like those used by Europeans for generations. Go as slow or as fast as you like as you navigate a trail in the woods or slide through a course set by traffic cones on an easy ski run. Race your friends or simply enjoy the pleasure of returning to the sledding joys of your childhood. Accept the challenge to learn new skills and prepare to be hooked by the sliding sensation of luge sledding.
Sleds and instruction are provided. You bring appropriate clothing and a positive attitude. We’re looking forward to seeing you on the mountain.
Suggested clothing: Warm layers with water resistant shell, waterproof foot wear (Xtratufs or similar), warm gloves, helmet and goggles.
